Thanks for visiting Eyes Of The World Travels. My name is Alex Shur and I am a 23 year old dirty backpacker, goatless goat enthusiast, friend of stray dogs, and soon to be Peace Corps Volunteer in Guatemala. I went to Northern Michigan University in the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan where I graduated with an International Relations major and Spanish minor. Raised in America, my parents instilled an international mentality in me and, since my first trip to India in 2013, that mentality has run my life. I plan to spend the rest of my life in various countries assisting with sustainable development and agroecology.
I aim to use this site to post writing about my travels, working in Guatemala, and other thoughts that come to mind. Most of my writing will focus on my time in rural villages and exploring nature which is where I spend the majority of my time abroad. More than anything else, I would like to preserve the beauty of past travels and to convey that feeling to others. There is a certain element of traveling where, in any random moment, everything could suddenly connect and a feeling that everything is perfect arises. That is what I’m constantly in search for in my travels, music, wanderings etc. If I am at least partially successful in my travels and my writing, you should find something worth reading on here.
